Idly

Urad dal - 1 cup
Idly rava - 1 and 1/2 cups
Salt - to taste
  • Soak urad dal, with enough water overnight or for 4 to 6 hours.
  • Soak Idly rava,with enough water overnight or for 4 to 6 hours.
  1. Drain the water of idly rava,take handful rava and press tightly,so that excess water will drain.do this for all rava and keep aside.
  2. Grind urad dal into smooth paste,by adding little water.
  3. Now mix rava and urad dal without any lumps.
  4. Keep it covered overnight,in a warm place(or in oven),next day it will increase the size.
  5. Again mix well by adding salt to it.
  6. (Batter should be like condensed milk).

To cook idly:

  • Pour batter in idly plates or( any small vessel).
  • In a cooker or any large vessel,add 1 glass water,and put idly stand (filled with batter) and cover with tightly with lid.
  • Cook them in medium flame,for 15 minutes.
  • Insert Fork or knife into idly,if it comes out clean, idly is cooked.
